ClickSend - Send an MMS Action in ActiveCampaign

Introduction

We are excited to introduce a new feature in ActiveCampaign: ClickSend's Send an MMS action is now available in CX Apps! With this feature, you can:

  • Send individual MMS by adding a field for an Image URL.
  • Automate MMS messages using shared or dedicated Sender IDs.
  • Send MMS to supported countries: United States, Canada, Australia and Puerto Rico..

Authorization

Follow these steps to set up ClickSend's MMS action in ActiveCampaign:

  1. Login to ActiveCampaign
  2. Go to ActiveCampaign and log into your account.
  3. Create an Automation
  4. Navigate to the Automations page.
  • Click Create an automation from scratch.
  • Select the trigger 'When a tag is added'.
  • Use the keyword Join for this tag.
  • Under Runs, select Multiple times and click Save.
  1. Add the ClickSend - Send an MMS Action
  2. Click the + sign to add an action.
  3. Search for ClickSend - Send an MMS in the CX Apps list and select it.
  4. Connect Your ClickSend Account
  • Click Add new account.
  • Enter your ClickSend Username and API Key.
  • Click Next.

Configuring Your MMS Action

  1. Choose a Sender ID
  • Select your Shared or Dedicated number as the sender.
  • If you leave the From field blank, the system will automatically use a shared number from your ClickSend account.
Note: Only shared and dedicated numbers are supported for MMS.
  1. Select an opt-out list
    This is optional but recommended.

    Choose an opt-out list from the dropdown. Any one who unsubscribes from your messages will be automatically added to this list.

    Before you do, make sure you have set up the opt-out rule in your ClickSend Dashboard. Learn how to set up the opt-out rule.
  2. Generate an image URL from the image portal
  3. Click the link to open the upload portal. You will need to log in to your ClickSend account again to access the portal. 
  4. After logging in, you'll be redirected to the upload page.
  5. Upload your image file and an MMS Image URL will be generated.
  6. Copy this URL and paste it into the Image URL field when sending your MMS.
Please note, supported image formats include .jpg, .jpeg, .png, and .gif. See the full list of media requirements here. 
  1. Compose Your Message
  • Add a Subject for your MMS.
  • Write your message (Maximum: 1500 characters).
  • For more details on character limits, refer to MMS Character limit.
  1. Complete the Setup
  • Click Finish to save your MMS action.

Testing Your Automated MMS

  1. Go to Contacts
  • Select the contact who should receive the automated MMS.
  1. Add the Trigger Tag
  • Scroll down to the Tag field.
  • Add the keyword , for example Join (the one used in the trigger setup).
  1. Verify the Automation
  • Once the tag is added, the automated MMS will be triggered.
  • Check the Activity section on the right side of the Contact's page to confirm the MMS was sent.

Supported formats include .jpg, .jpeg, .png, and .gif. You can also use tools like Postman or online converters if needed.

7. How do I trigger an automated MMS message?

  • Go to the Contacts section in ActiveCampaign.
  • Add the Trigger Tag (e.g., "Join") to the contact.
  • Once the tag is added, the automation will send an MMS.

8. Where can I check if my MMS was sent successfully?

Go to the Activity section of the contact’s page in ActiveCampaign to verify the MMS was sent.

9. Is there a character limit for MMS messages?

Yes, MMS messages support a maximum of 1,500 characters.

10. Why isn’t my MMS being sent?

Check the following:

  • Make sure that you used the correct Image URL.
  • Confirm your Sender ID is shared or dedicated.
  • Verify that the recipient’s country supports MMS sending.
  • Check ActiveCampaign’s Activity section for any errors.

11. Can I send MMS to international numbers?

MMS is currently limited to the United States, Canada, Australia, and Puerto Rico. For international messaging, consider using ClickSend SMS instead.

    Ensure you are using your ClickSend username and API key for authentication, not your ClickSend password.
  2. Inbound SMS Reception
    Verify that you have a dedicated number configured to receive inbound messages. You can purchase a dedicated number via the ClickSend Dashboard.
  3. Account Credit
    Confirm that you have sufficient credit in your ClickSend account for sending SMS. Check your account balance and top up here.
  4. Phone Number Formatting
    Ensure that all local phone numbers are converted to the international format (e.g., +1 for the US).
